Tournament Facts 2014
German tournament victory - instructive games for Switzerland
Germany's U20 handball players win the top-class junior four-country tournament for the Airport Trophy in Kloten. Coach Markus Baur's team won all three games and was already in very good shape. For Germany it was tournament victory number 2 in the Ruebisbachhalle after 20111. Defending champions Spain finished in second place and were therefore unable to make up for the loss suffered on matchday one when they lost to Germany.

The appearance at the four-country tournament was very instructive for the Swiss team. Although coach Michael Suter's team finished 4th in the final rankings, they kept up very well in all games against top-class opponents and sometimes challenged them until the final minutes. "Our team was younger than the competition and had even less training behind us - we can still be satisfied with the performance," U20 national coach Michael Suter drew a positive conclusion. "We're up the right way - but still have a lot of work ahead of us.» The focus of the team is on preparing for the U20 European Championships in Austria at the end of July. "We saw what we still have to work on in order to be in the finals of the European Championship."
Overall, the 2014 tournament again received top marks. The teams praised the organization at a very high level. With around 800 spectators per match day, the event was also very well attended - despite tough competition from other events.
